Valerón leaves UD Las Palmas

Juan Carlos Valerón has decided to end his professional association with UD Las Palmas. The up till now honorary captain of the team has decided to leave the club for personal reasons, having returned to the set up in July 2013.

"El Flaco" (his nickname, meaning “the skinny one”) ends his professional association with UD Palmas. Juan Carlos Valerón (born Arguineguín on 17th June 1975) has communicated his decision to leave the club for personal reasons.  

Valerón said farewell to football on 7th May 2016. Since then, the club had designated him the role of Honorary Captain in recognition of his exemplary professional and personal career. Having hung up his boots for the last time, Valerón remained at the club in the Training and Scouting Department, led by Manuel Rodríguez "Tonono". In the 16/17, season, he joined as deputy manager to Manolo Márquez at second string side Las Palmas Atlético, with whom he helped get promotion to Segunda División B, in the third tier of Spanish football. In the following season, Valerón also worked alongside Márquez in a technical role in the first team. At the same time, the magician from Arguineguín took over the running of under 14s side Infantil B, part of UD Las Palmas youth set up. With the arrival of Juan Manuel Rodríguez at Las Palmas Atlético, Juan Carlos came back to the second team as deputy manager.
