Las Palmas put in a strong away performance but left Pamplona empty-handed after a 2-1 defeat against Osasuna at El Sadar.
Despite the positive display, a penalty — Osasuna's fourth awarded this season — along with a late counterattack finished by Aimar Oroz, secured all three points for the home side. Las Palmas' only goal came from Alberto Moleiro, who headed in from a corner.
Manager Luis Carrión made several changes to the starting lineup, notably bringing in Juanma Herzog to the heart of the defense and handing debuts to Portuguese internationals Essugo and Fabio Silva.
The first half was a rollercoaster, with Las Palmas creating four clear-cut chances to open the scoring. However, it was Osasuna who struck first from a controversial penalty, converted by Budimir. Las Palmas hit back almost immediately, with Moleiro nodding in at the far post from a well-worked corner routine delivered by Sandro.
In addition to conceding, Las Palmas were forced to deal with two significant injuries before the break. Mika Mármol picked up a knock that led to the penalty incident, while Marvin Park also pulled up with a muscle problem and had to be replaced by Viti Rozada.
The second half saw Las Palmas continue to press for a goal, and Fabio Silva thought he had scored early on, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside. Moments later, Silva came close again, and McBurnie fired over the bar.
Against the run of play, Osasuna grabbed their second goal through a quick counterattack, with Aimar Oroz finishing clinically after a Las Palmas turnover in midfield. Despite Las Palmas pushing hard for an equalizer and leaving themselves vulnerable to Osasuna's counterattacks, they were unable to find a way back into the match.
The defeat leaves Las Palmas needing to quickly shift their focus to the next fixture, as they prepare to face Betis with the league moving at a rapid pace.
