The home side looked their formidable opponents in the eye and even had chances to take the lead. However, two errors in possession allowed Dani Olmo and Ferrán to seal the victory (0-2), with the latter scoring in stoppage time.
Las Palmas approached this challenging match boldly, aiming to showcase football on par with the visiting league leaders at the Estadio de Gran Canaria. In the first 10 minutes, they created three dangerous opportunities. First, Bajcetic's shot was saved by the goalkeeper, then Viti’s volley narrowly missed the post, and finally, McBurnie had a counterattack but failed to get past the last defender.
The home crowd appreciated their team’s bravery. Despite several key absences, Las Palmas troubled their opponents. In the 13th minute, Sandro had his first chance with a powerful shot that Szczęsny struggled to push away for a corner. Mármol almost connected with the ball in the following play.
Las Palmas accepted that their opponents would dominate possession, requiring them to remain disciplined and defensively solid while looking to exploit quick transitions. Moleiro had a golden opportunity in the 24th minute, cutting inside and striking a diagonal shot that went inches past the post.
Cillessen faced his first real scare in the 31st minute when Yamal capitalized on a misplaced pass and fired a dangerous shot that went just wide of the goal near the Curva stand.
Las Palmas managed the different phases of the game well, organizing themselves when Barcelona increased their intensity. By the end of the first half and the start of the second, they held their ground, but in the 60th minute, Dani Olmo broke the deadlock. The Spanish international started and finished a swift move with an unstoppable shot past Cillessen.
Las Palmas immediately sought to respond. Martínez made a triple substitution just before Sandro unleashed a powerful shot in the 67th minute, once again missing the target by a small margin.
In the 80th minute, VAR intervened to overturn a penalty appeal for a handball by Eric García, ruling that an earlier offside invalidated the entire sequence.
Las Palmas continued pushing for an equalizer, but it was Ferrán who sealed the game with Barcelona’s second goal in stoppage time.
