UD Las Palmas secured another home draw this Thursday, finishing 1-1 against Real Betis. Moleiro put them ahead with his goal, but Lo Celso brought the visitors level before the break. The evening also saw the concerning injuries of Sandro and Essugo, both of whom requested to be substituted during the match.
The game started with a missed opportunity, as the clock hadn’t even ticked past 100 seconds. Moleiro set up Fabio Silva with a direct pass into the area, but his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Rui Silva.
Betis survived the initial local attack in a match where Luis Carrión had to make some forced changes to the defense. The midfield was also restructured with a trio of Essugo, Enzo Loiodice, and Kirian Rodríguez.
Las Palmas approached the sunny afternoon with enthusiasm, their first goal being to open the scoring. They did so in the 8th minute, with Viti making a deep run on the left and passing to Moleiro. The Tenerife-born player finished with his left foot at the far post, putting Las Palmas up 1-0.
However, the goal didn’t seem to do Las Palmas any favors. After that promising start, the match began to shift, and by the end of the first half, Betis had equalized 1-1.
Betis gained control of the ball and created several dangerous chances near Cillessen's goal. Las Palmas couldn’t find a way to score a second goal to relieve the uncertainty that had crept into the game.
Then, just before halftime, bad news struck. First, Sandro Ramírez had to be substituted after being examined by the team doctor. And in the last play of the first half, Betis scored the equalizer. The goal came from a turnover in the attacking third, with a quick counter-attack finished by Lo Celso after a pass from Assane.
The game leveled out in the second half, where caution seemed to prevail over boldness. Essugo, who later left the field injured, had a chance to score with a long-range shot that went just wide of Naciente’s goal. Bakambu tested Cillessen a minute later, but the keeper's save kept the score at 1-1 in the 66th minute.
The same players faced off again in the 81st minute, with Bakambu hitting the post. The scare ended there, but the score remained unchanged.
The last chance of the evening fell to Loiodice, whose right-footed shot went far wide of Rui Silva's goal.
