The game was key for both teams, somewhat unusual for a match so early on in the league programme. Las Palmas were on a run of seven defeats in a row, and could not afford to slip up in the Estadio Gran Canaria, even less so against a recently promoted team who were also desperate to pick up points. Once again, however, history repeated itself.
Ayestarán's men were unable to string a move together in the first few minutes. Levante, meanwhile, were a little more into the game, and created a few chances against home goalkeeper Raúl Lizoain. In the 15th minute, Enes Unal had the first clear chance on goal for the visitors, which Lizoain turned away for a corner. The yellows looked uncomfortable and things did not look good. Viera was unable to manage anything imaginative, while Vitolo was fouled every time he looked to go on a run. In the 25th minute Calleri had a goal disallowed for offside.
Las Palmas began to push forward towards the end of the first half with shots by Jonathan Viera and Calleri, but the forwards were unable to trouble the away goal defended by Oier. Levante, meanwhile, began to tire up front. The scoreline remained the same.
In the first move of the second half, Raúl Lizoain kept out a certain goal with a great save from a shot by Jasón. Levante began to pick up the pace once again, and looked to make the most of a passive-looking home defence. The yellows suddenly woke up and took control of the match. They moved forward more consistently, although the final pass was never effective enough.
David Simón couldn't get on the end of a great shot by Vitolo which was pushed into his path by Oier (min. 62). It was Las Palmas' best chance in the game so far. Levante responded with a superb free kick by Bardhi that flashed narrowly over the bar.
Disillusionment fell all around the Estadio Gran Canaria with the first goal, 0-1, in the 70th minute. A cross from the right was headed downward by Doukouré and beyond the reach of Raúl Lizoain. With barely time to react, Las Palmas conceded a quick second goal that tore the team apart. Jason (min. 79) had a run and shot across the goal into the far post. Another disappointing night for Las Palmas, who tonight finish bottom of the First Division.
