Las Palmas loses two points in the final stretch (1-1)
UD Las Palmas shared points this Sunday with Villarreal (1-1), in the third-to-last match of the regular season of the Second Division.
The yellows took the lead with a magnificent goal from Sandro Ramírez in the first half, where they had notable chances, even to seal the night. Pejiño hit the post twice, but everything changed in the second half. Villarreal equalized with a set-piece play and all the final effort was for nothing.
With this score, García Pimienta's team faces two exciting weeks, with a visit to Cartagena and a final reception against Alavés. There are 180 minutes left full of great emotions.
It had been a tense evening at the Estadio de Gran Canaria. UD Las Palmas launched towards the goal after a few minutes of mutual study, hoping to quickly reinforce their lead in the standings.
Fran Pejiño was the first protagonist of the match. The initial chances came from his right side. The Andalusian player shot twice at the Villarreal B goal, increasing the excitement of the Gran Canaria fans. In the 8th minute, after a play by Lemos and a rebound, Pejiño sent a missile with his left foot towards Iker Álvarez's post. The ball went out of bounds. And in the 14th, after opening up space in the area, the Barbateño player tried again with his right foot. But the low shot again hit the post of the Villarreal B.
Las Palmas had taken control of the game, although they also assumed their own risks. In one of those counterattack plays, Fer Niño sent the ball into the net of Valles, but the goal was not valid due to an offside position.
It was all a scare, but it didn't dim the players' ambition at Garca Pimienta. Sandro Ramirez scored the game's first goal in the 26th minute. The play was started by Kirian Rodríguez, who gave an excellent pass towards the visiting team's area. Lemos touched the ball and left Sandro facing the goalkeeper, to cross an obus directly to the angle. At first, the referee disallowed the goal, but the VAR confirmed it after checking the correct position of the Gran Canaria scorer.
Villarreal again had two threatening moments before halftime. In the 40th minute, Leal headed down and also hit the post. And in extra time, his teammate Tasende stood in front of the Rinconada goalkeeper, but Valles denied the goal by blocking the low shot with his leg.
The offensive performances of the match fell in the second half. Las Palmas refreshed the pieces and made an effort to defend their lead. Marvin Park, in the 70th minute, had his chance after a fast run by Marc and a pass to the second post where the Balearic player shot wide. The minutes were falling and the 24,482 spectators cheered on their players, giving popular support to keep the effort going.
