Diego Martínez: "I see everyone aligned, and we need to give our fans reasons to fight alongside us."
UD Las Palmas' coach emphasized that "the team has a fighting spirit. The burden of not winning is there, yet the team keeps fighting and believing in what it does. It’s very easy to give up during matches and lose confidence in any adverse situation, but they continue without lowering their arms."
Ahead of the match against Real Sociedad, Diego Martínez stated, "We are facing an opponent that just played a great game at the Bernabéu. It will be very difficult, but it is also a great opportunity for us to keep fighting with our people for survival in the league."
Here are some of his statements:
"Football is about accuracy. The team competes very well, and I’m very proud of what they do every day. Regardless of the level of the teams we’ve faced, we remain highly competitive."
"It’s clear that Real Sociedad is coming in with great confidence. I see everyone aligned, and we need to give our fans reasons to fight alongside us."
"I was clear and respectful after the last match—we have to focus on what we can control and think optimistically about Sunday’s game."
"The interpretation of plays is a debate that needs to remain on the table. I try to be consistent with past realities. When VAR was introduced, we thought it would solve certain problems, but instead, it created others. There will always be a margin of error. Perhaps we need to better agree on how to use the tool."
"We had a big scare with Cillessen. When health is at stake, everything else becomes secondary. Fortunately, the operation went well. The team adapted after a goalkeeper change, which is a big deal when he is one of your leaders. Dinko did very well, too. The team showed great emotional control. Jasper is recovering well and receiving excellent care."
"Real Sociedad’s signings are adapting better and better. They have good ball circulation and a very high technical level. Honestly, I believe Real Sociedad has been one of the best role models for Spanish football over the past five or six years in terms of club structure."
"Álex Suárez was very present. Showing leadership both when you play and when you don’t is very difficult. That speaks to the values of this team, and I’m very proud of the locker room we have."
