UD Las Palmas move onwards and upwards, as does striker Rubén Castro. Eight points from four matches. The team is coming together and this is clearly evident in the players, who are gradually gelling as a unit. The team started out as expected with debutant Timor and Íñigo Gallarreta in the anchoring role. Manolo Jiménez returned to a backline of four, with Alberto De la Bella on the left hand side. Maikel Mesa and Fidel moved infield from wide positions in an attempt to upset the orderly visiting defence. Las Palmas moved the ball around fluently, but failed to find the killer touch. Nástic tried to slow the game down, and hardly threatened home goalkeeper Raúl Fernández at all. And everything suddenly changed in the 28th minute with the sending off of Arzo. He received a straight red for pulling back Rubén Castro when he was in on goal against visiting goalkeeper Bernabé.

The game is a matter of small details, good football and making chances count. Las Palmas have a striker who can get on the end of any half chance that comes his way to put the ball into the back of the net. The home side had become somewhat hasty once they had the extra man, but once again Rubén Castro popped up to score the first goal and give Jiménez’s decisive lead, who until that point had controlled the match without playing particularly well.

The second half saw the Las Palmas side people were hoping for. Playing solid football, with plenty of options, passing the ball around patiently, they were controlling the match at their pace, and were also able to put chances away. In the 55th minute, David Timor made the scores 2-0, with the help of Albentosa, who put the goalkeeper off. Rubén Castro scored his team’s third, this time with a header. Las Palmas were able to sit back in the final half hour and rounded off their evening’s work with a fourth goal, to give their fans hope for the future. Álvaro Lemos was the man to score a fine goal to make the final score 4-0 in the 71st minute.
