La UD Las Palmas started with both their two new signings Jesé and Halilovic, with Aythami playing at centre back in the place of Bigas who had a muscle strain.
Two forays by UD Las Palmas through Roque and Jesé began to unsettle the Sevilla goalkeeper within the first ten minutes of play, getting a packed crowd on their feet at the Estadio Gran Canaria, in an afternoon that threatened with storms but ended up more Spring-like than anything else.
Vitolo was the main threat and in the 12th minute Ben Yeddrer played in the Canarian international forward who fell in the box in a dangerous Sevilla move.
In the 20th minute claims for a possible penalty by Rico on Prince were turned away by the referee. The middle of the first half was reached with no score, with both teams pushing forward with intent in what was an exciting match.
Sevilla were playing in characteristic style, with uncompromising challenges going in against Viera and Halilović, both of which brought yellow cards. The end of the first half was reached with the game flowing from end to end but with no clear cut chances, in a game in which the home team pushed one of the best teams in Europe all the way. A free kick committed against Jesé from a dangerous position was wasted by Viera. Once again Jesé got involved with a shot which was blocked by the away defence, while home goalkeeper got down to save an odds on goal for Sevilla at the feet of 'Mudo' Vàzquez.
The second half started with a shot from Vitolo and an array of chances for the yellows. Efforts came from both Prince and Halilović which were dealt with by Sergio Rico. The match became quite frenetic and any result seemed likely. The crowd were thoroughly enjoying proceedings and attempted to rally Las Palmas to victory.
The minutes flew by and it seemed nobody was likely to break the deadlock. By the 70th minute Las Palmas were yet to make any substitutions.
The 79th minute arrived with the devastating goal by Correa (0-1). Setién reshuffled his pack as he went in search of an equalizer by bringing on Tana and Livaja, but time was slipping away. David Simón was the closest to getting an equalizer but the scoreline remained the same, meaning UD Las Palmas had finally lost their unbeaten run in the Estadio Gran Canaria, when it could be said they were a little unlucky.
