UD Las Palmas were only able to pick up a point in their visit to the division’s bottom club. Paco Herrera said his team should be given his full confidence following the previous good performances against Rayo Majadahonda and CA Osasuna. The only change made to the line-up was Maikel Mesa who came in for the suspended Galarreta. Nástic de Tarragona ran the show in the first half. They pushed forward with long balls and the odd corner kick. Las Palmas broke forward against the home side’s early siege with the game’s first real chance in the 13th minute, when Fidel had a shot blocked by home goalkeeper Bernabé.
The yellows did not look comfortable in the first half. After half an hour Raúl Fernández was forced to turn a dangerous shot from the edge of the area behind for a corner. The Catalonian side were moving the ball around much better and hardly gave Paco Herrera’s men time to breathe. Another great stop by the away keeper from a drive by Abraham once again saved Las Palmas just before the break.
The second half started in much the same fashion. Nástic tried to push forward while Las Palmas sat back and waited for a chance to break. Herrera quickly decided to reshuffle his bench, bringing on Lemos and Araujo in place of Fidel and Maikel Mesa.
Las Palmas dominated the last twenty minutes of the match following the sending off of home defender Thioune for two bookable offences. In the 76th minute Momo missed a great chance to score following a fine move by Timor and Dani Castellano. The left-footed wide man placed his effort just wide of the post when everyone was about to celebrate a goal.
A header by central defender Noguerra nearly found its way into the yellows’ net. Then a minute later Lemos and Momo missed another great chance for the away side. The final whistle came with a solitary point earned at the home of the bottom club.
