Diego Martínez: "We’re in the fight. The goal is at stake in every match, every play, and every minute."

The coach said in the pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Mallorca: "A month ago, we were talking about how people thought we were already relegated, and now we’re in the fight. The goal is at stake in every match and every minute."

Diego Martínez spoke in the press room at the Estadio Gran Canaria, where he admitted that Mallorca is a team "with a great squad. We’re talking about a club with top-level players, which tells you it will be a very tough match. They’re a very strong team in both penalty areas. We’ll need to be very accurate with our passing. It will be a very exciting game."

These were some of his statements:

"The team has trained well these weeks. The break has been good for us to get to know each other better and to work on details of our game and alternatives."

"I think Jagoba is an extraordinary coach. Generationally, we’ve faced each other a lot."

"The fans are always a key part of things, and for us, they are very important. I hope they come to compete with the team and get involved in the cause. Everything is in place to fill the stadium and to compete together, united with the team."

"This is a marathon. Hopefully, we’ll earn three points every Sunday… but what matters is that in May, we’re happy for achieving the goal. It will be very complicated and difficult. Every opponent presents a very tough challenge."

"Those who have been with their national teams have returned with the usual fatigue from travel and without much rest, but they’ve also come back with boosted self-esteem. For us, as a team and as a club, it’s a source of pride that Fábio has made the jump to the senior national team. He’s made us all part of that achievement, and it’s something very special. We’ll see over the next few hours how they’re feeling as we assess their condition."

"A month ago, we were talking about how people thought we were already relegated, and now we’re in the fight. The goal is at stake in every match and every minute. The only thing that matters is being in a position to fight for the three points. What’s clear is that we face matches with conviction and the necessary concentration."

"Playing good football means making good decisions. Sometimes it will be short passes; other times, long ones. Football is about the little things, which you have to do very well. We now have more options, but our essence remains the same."
