Diego Martínez: "This victory belongs to everyone; it has one spirit and no names attached."
The yellow team’s coach emphasized the excellent work by his players to achieve their first win of the season at the Gran Canaria Stadium: "Today we took a step toward maturity, and that’s important."
After UD Las Palmas’ victory over Girona at Gran Canaria, Diego Martínez said, “The players were eager to bring this victory to the fans. The crowd responded, and I have to thank them for helping us compete in the final minutes.”
“It sounds simple, but winning against this opponent, after so long without a home win at Gran Canaria, and keeping a clean sheet, is really significant,” the coach added.
Here are some of his statements:
“They started better than we did, but we grew into the game. We were more vigilant, regained possession... we had very clear chances to make it 2-0 and close the game. The team stayed focused in the last minutes.”
“We’re here to help the team perform their best, individually and collectively. The players know there’s a lot to improve.”
“There are two things I want to improve: our sharpness in the second half, especially in those three or four moments that allow you to close out the game, and handling that second phase of the second half much earlier.”
“Every week is a new story; from tomorrow, we have to start preparing for the two upcoming away games. We need to keep building the bridge as we walk on it.”
“Januzaj picked up a knock in Valencia, worked hard all week to be ready, but it just wasn’t possible today. That’s what we’re all here for.”
