Diego Martínez: "We Need to Compete Better"

UD Las Palmas coach Diego Martínez emphasized in his post-match press conference: "I think we had a very poor phase in this game. Lately, we haven’t been able to capitalize on chances and take the lead."

Speaking after the defeat against RCD Mallorca at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix, Martínez analyzed his team's performance: "We have to recover; we managed to do that in the second half, but with three goals against us, it was very difficult." He acknowledged the team's struggles: "We're going through a negative run of results. Everyone is frustrated by this match—we were outplayed. In our last two games, we didn’t deserve the points we got. Today, the team suffered; the opponent’s first two crosses ended in goals."

Here are some of his key statements:

"We have been very efficient in both penalty areas. But lately, in these closely contested matches, the coin has always landed on the wrong side for us. We can’t allow goals to come so easily."

"Right now, it’s a very tough day for our fans and for all of us. We clearly need to recover mentally and emotionally. Our struggles in both penalty areas are costing us a lot."

"We are in a bad run of results. I think we have to separate emotions from facts and remain objective, which is difficult right after a match because the frustration is huge. It wasn’t a good game—we were outplayed, and they were better. But we also need to stay calm and realistic. We have 23 points, we knew this would be a tough place to play, and now we are fully in the fight."

"Now, more than ever, we must stay united. We believe in our players. We believe in what we do. Today was a bad game, but the only way to overcome these moments is by staying together."
