Diego Martínez: “We’re back in action tomorrow against a very tough opponent.”
Diego Martínez spoke to the media ahead of the Copa del Rey match against CE Europa, which will be played this Tuesday.
The yellow team’s coach appeared in a virtual press conference from the hotel where the team is staying. Diego Martínez stated, “We have a very different game compared to what we faced at Montjuic. We’ll play on a very small pitch, with synthetic grass, and against a team with very clear ideas. They have a very defined way of playing, especially with their demands in wide crosses.”
These were some of his most notable comments:
“What has caught my attention about CE Europa is their creativity and quality in attacking set pieces. We’ll have to adapt to the conditions of such a small pitch as quickly as possible.”
“I count on everyone for all positions. I’m very pleased with Mika Mármol’s performance the other day. He was injured, recovering from a foot fracture. These processes have their paths, although it’s true that the team has evolved by performing well defensively.”
“The work with the academy players has been the same since day one. Beyond that, they are involved in competitions with the club’s reserve teams, which are important. Player development has more to do with the work of many or even everyone.”
“That’s what we want—committed players like him who have waited for their opportunity. From there, we’ll count on him for whatever is needed. His main position is center-back, but he can also play as a full-back, giving us flexibility in that area. I’m very happy with him and with other players.”
“It’s a source of pride that the fans are enjoying all of this. Those who have traveled here have felt very proud. We need many moments like this to balance out the negative ones because the team has suffered a lot. In terms of self-esteem and confidence, it was at a very low level.”
