UD Las Palmas and AEK Athens have agreed on a loan deal for Argentinian forward Sergio Araujo. The Greek club have reserved the right to buy the player, but are required to do so before 30th May. Araujo had turned out for AEK for a year and a half in the 2017/2018, also on loan. He played a total of 60 games for them, scoring 24 goals in the process, winning the Greek league and playing in the final of the Cup.
Araujo has played a total of 121 official matches for Las Palmas, scoring 36 goals, 25 of them in his first season with Paco Herrera as manager, helping the club to gain promotion to the First Division. This season Araujo has only featured in four league games and two Spanish Cup games for Las Palmas.
He first signed for the club in the 2014-2015 season, from Club Atlético Boca Juniors, who had previously sent him on loan to FC Barcelona’s second team, for 2 years, and to Tigre, a club that at the time played in the Superliga de Argentina. Araujo’s contract with the yellows runs until 30th June 2023.
