Araujo and Herrera seal a great home victory (2-0)
UD Las Palmas secured a significant victory on Friday (2-0) at the Estadio de Gran Canaria. The team triumphed over a resilient opponent like Getafe, with goals from Julián Araujo and Cristian Herrera, one in each half. Both players opened their scoring account for the team.
Under García Pimienta, the squad has amassed 21 points after 15 matches and continues to march steadily towards their primary goal of securing their spot in the league.
All the anticipated aspects of the match against Getafe were evident on the field. García Pimienta's players exercised patience to try to bring intensity to their game. They aimed to avoid errors and remain highly focused on any attacking action from the Getafe side, as the yellow team's coach had emphasized before the match.
Las Palmas struggled to reach the opposition's box against an adversary that also tried to expand their opportunities with menacing shots, particularly from their winger Greenwood.
At the 8th minute mark, referee Busquets Ferrer revised an initial decision of a direct red card for the visitor Óscar Rodríguez (who had committed a foul on Julián Araujo). Following VAR review, the severe punishment was reduced to a yellow card, allowing Getafe to continue with 11 players on the field.
The match narrative didn't leave much room for changes in the scoreline, although at the 16th minute, a goal from Sandro Ramírez was disallowed due to offside. Las Palmas faced solid resistance from Getafe's defenders, preventing work for their goalkeeper Soria.
However, in the final stretch of the first half, Las Palmas unleashed their most aggressive offensive football. Kirian found space on the right wing to deliver a dangerous cross that Araujo, joining the attack, converted into a 1-0 lead with a precise header. The Mexican full-back had diagonally crossed from his position to head the ball near the far post.
The subsequent minutes before halftime were the most threatening for Las Palmas, with a second chance for Sandro being denied by the keeper after a powerful shot towards the post. Immediately after, Alderete denied Mika Mármol the chance for a 2-0 lead, diverting a ball that the yellow defender was about to strike into a corner.
The second half began with another VAR review. This time, Alderete's yellow card was upgraded to red, as the defender was found to have stepped on Loiodice. This setback altered some mutual plans discussed during the match's break.
Las Palmas had an opportunity to extend their lead in the 60th minute with a Sergi Cardona header, but the keeper Soria saved it with a feline dive.
The latter part of the second half belonged to Las Palmas once again. Two chances emerged from the right wing, proving crucial in sealing the victory. In the 88th minute, Julián Araujo dashed away, enabling Moleiro to slot the ball into the net. However, the goal was ruled out for an initial offside. The action was repeated minutes later, this time with Marvin Park and Cristian Herrera as the assistant and scorer, respectively. The second goal was counted, prompting jubilation in the stands.
