Jesé Rodríguez, the new signing for UD Las Palmas, was acclaimed by over 10,000 yellows fans tonight in the Estadio Gran Canaria, who didn’t want to miss out on seeing their new striker for the first time, their hero on loan from PSG and former Real Madrid star. Jesé will be putting on the yellow jersey for the first time in his career.
Several hours before doors were opened at the Estadio de Gran Canaria, fans were already queueing outside to get the best place on what has been an important date on the yellows’ sporting calendar. Both young and old wanted to get in on the action and take photos and get autographs from one of Las Palmas’ new footballing idols.
The Gran Canarian player was happy but overwhelmed, showing just how grateful he was for so much love and support he has received, following his firm determination to come to play for UD Las Palmas -despite great interest from other leading clubs around Europe, all keen to have him as a player. His boyhood dream of playing for his home team had come true: "I am so happy to be back at home", Jesé declared. "I am not here on a holiday, I am here to fight to the death for this team and try to get us into European competition. There were a lot of other teams interested, but I only wanted to play here. It is a boyhood dream that has come true: ¡'Pío Pío'!".
Toni Cruz, the general sports manager of UD Las Palmas, passed congratulations all round for the arrival of the new Gran Canarian striker: "The player’s desire to come back home to play has prevailed. It is a proud moment for us to be able to present Jesé to the fans. Miguel Ángel Ramírez played a key role in the whole operation. Jesé is now in the best place he could be, his attacking flair, strength, and goal-scoring ability have really surpassed the expectations of the sports management team. You are now one of ours, Jesé", Cruz declared.
